Spraying with Tikkurila Intact Primer & Intact 8

Intact is a new product from Tikkurila, claiming to be their most durable trim paint to date! Spraying Makes Sense gave it a run for its money when spraying a large kitchen on site.

PaintTech Decorators tested Tikkurila Intact Primer and Intact 8 on a kitchen sprayed on-site. The finish of this product is very unique, I would describe it feeling like a polyurethane but different. We have been spraying kitchens for quite a while and have always used Tikkurila Helmi, using a Tritech Airless Machine. However, the Intact is completely different. The durability of the Intact Primer and Intact 8 system seems impressive and fills me with a lot of faith. Tikkurila Intact comes in two finishes; Intact 8 & Intact 40. In my opinion, Intact 8, is perfect for a kitchen I would say the finish is right in between matt & eggshell. The intact 40 is more on the higher end of a satin finish. I love this product! The finish is incredible, but the durability seems so great it doesn’t even mark on black.

Why we would never roller a ceiling again!

Firstly, why would you even consider accepting a rollered finish on a ceiling when you can get a flawless finish by spraying it?

So: Roller or Sprayer?

Well, for us it’s a no brainer as the difference in the finish is worlds apart. When using a roller you have to choose a roller that is of a good quality, the right size and the right pile/nap thickness as this can make a huge difference to the finish you get. Once you have chosen the roller you then have to drag a big paint tray around, get paint drips and splatter on dust sheets. What you also need to take into account is the time it takes to climb up and down the ladder cutting in around the perimeter of the ceiling, around every light which takes quite a while to say the least! Now add the time to roller the whole ceiling working around the lights so no wonder you see skips, misses and blending of a textured roller finish into a smooth brushed finish.

But Spraying all the rage so you would say that?

The joke is that the sprayer was around over 53 years before the roller was even invented so don’t fall into that trap. The technology has been around for over 125 years which in my mind speaks volumes. Think about how many surfaces that are sprayed against how many receive a roller finish? To be honest we are the last trade to pick up this technology to give our clients a fantastic finish.

You don't want it sprayed as it goes everywhere!

Absolutely right.. Alot of decorators who are new to spraying will have no practical experience, training or even a certification in the right use of a sprayer so beware.

We not only have over 25 years experience but we also have a City & Guilds Certificate in Airless Spraying. More that that actually as we put together the spraying training with Pete Wilkinson and run PaintTech Training Academy with 5 centres across the UK and Ireland.

We teach decorators how to use the machines safely and with control so you don’t have to experience the nightmare of what can go wrong when decorators try spraying on your projects at over 2500psi!!!

Surely its not worth all the time masking off?

As a home owner wouldn’t you want you kitchen, media unit or your belongings completely covered over? Not just to protect from the paint but also from all the filling and sanding. We protect your home from the dust whether it be from paint or filler, it’s still your home and we want to leave it spotless when we are finished.

Polish a Turd!

Surely you have all heard this expression?  But here is the counter argument – “no but you can roll it in Glitter!!”

There is a down side to spraying your ceilings instead of rollering them though: when you give such a flawless and perfectly flat ceiling it will show up every imperfection unfortunately. Believe it or not I have had someone suggest the best option is to add a slight textured pattern to the ceiling in the hope of hiding the problems beneath –  this is what we call “polishing a turd”!!!

But you can't touch up a sprayed ceiling?

Too true, for over 25 years we have never managed to touch up a ceiling when it’s got lots of light streaming in from a big bay window or a huge set of Bifold doors; but then neither has a decorator with a brush or roller!?

Why? Simply put it’s because of the paint choice. We use tried and tested paints from all over the globe; from Germany, America, Finland and others from places you wouldn’t believe. We are always searching for the ultimate paint, one where we can complete a project and know that if and when we return to resolve a problem we know we have the best system and product to achieve the best result.

So yes, most times  we are able to touch up ceilings now and not have a problem.

Is your car finished with a roller?

No it’s not and the though would make you cringe, yet you live in your home looking at walls and ceilings accepting that its the norm -well it’s not or at least it shouldn’t be.

We have been spraying all of our ceilings not matter the size or detail for over 20 years for a clear reason; they look incredible all the time every time.

The pictures and videos are “proof in the Pudding”. Don’t accept a lesser finish within your own home, you deserve better and you have worked hard enough for it.

Why use PaintTech Decorators for your project?

When looking for a decorating company to price a project for you, would you generally go on recommendation?

Proof is in the pudding!

This has been my mantra for many years now as I believe it says it all! When we stand tall and shout about how proud we are of our business and the level of quality we achieve –  it has to better than good ,it has to be amazing…

When you strive to achieve those levels and keep on striving it doesn’t take long for people to start listening, to start trusting in you and your service.

Put yourself and your work on the line..

With marketing being very visual at the moment and social media so accessible to everyone, including our clients we are constantly taking pictures, videos and live posts to showcase our work and the projects we working on. You have to put yourself and your work up for scrutiny so you need to be sure to deliver consistently good work.  People are not stupid, they can see for themselves what is for real and what is hype!

Consistency is key

We have been actively posting our work online for over 7 years now.  We post most days over all our social media platforms so if we were charlatans then I think we would have been found out long before now!?
The level of work we produce is what keeps us in work, helps us keep pushing the limits by constantly testing new products and systems to achieve the best results for our clients and contractors.

The last decorators work was awful..

It is so easy for someone new to condemn and put down a previous decorators work but that never works well long term! Our motto is; don’t worry about them just worry about yourself. Keep pushing your standards so you can stand strong and be proud about your work.
Always make sure that you deliver – “PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING”

Spraying Swimming Pool Ceilings

We have been painting & decorating for over 25 years and although price is the most talked about subject we have found that our clients are ultimately more focused on the quality of the finished result.

Why Spraying a Swimming Pool area makes for a better finish

We were called in to sort out the painting

We received a phone call from GS Decorating who we have worked with for a few years. They knew that we would be able to help rectify what had become a problematic ceiling in a swimming pool and bar complex. The ceiling had been traditionally painted but wasn’t up to the quality expected by the clients.

This project was in The Boltons, Chelsea and can be a challenge for a lot of decorating firms, not only because of the parking issues but because of the extremely high standards that come with such a prestigious London postcode.

Why did they call PaintTech Decorators?

They call us because we specialise in spraying paint on site without the disruption and problems that can come with spraying if you don’t have the experience. Not only have we been spraying in peoples homes and on site for over 20 years, we are the leaders in teaching other decorators to use spray machines in the right way at our training academies so yes, we do know how it should and can be done.

Choose the right paint for the job..

When we met the client on site we could clearly see the problems they were having and why.. The sheer expanse and awkwardness of the access meant that it would be virtually unachievable using traditional methods of brush and roller. Add in the additional issues of the product that had been specified which, although on paper seemed a great choice to deal with high humidity it was clearly a nightmare to get an even finish.

We suggested spraying the area with a product from Zinsser that we had used a few times with great success, no problems or comebacks.

How long would it take?

Well, we measured up the area and went through a few access logistics which was agreed. We then scheduled a date and time to complete the project with the client. The contractors on site prepared the area prior to us arriving and we agreed to spray late in the afternoon on the first day, this was to help with access and to ensure a clear area for both ourselves and the other trades still working on the project. We expected to have the job wrapped up in a couple of evenings all being well.

So, what spray machine is best for this kind of project?

We turned up with one of our Graco spray machines. We chose this because it can handle two guns spraying at the same time. We cracked open the tubs of Zinsser paint, mixed everything together to make sure we had enough for the first coat and got started. We chose a fine finish 618 tip on both guns and the reason for running two was that we needed to keep a wet edge for as long as possible. We also had a third member of the team who made sure that the sprayer was kept topped up with paint at all times.

We left for the paint to dry overnight and agreed to be back the following day.

Spraying and getting a flawless finish isn't easy

We returned on the second day, we had to sort a few minor issues where the filler that the contractors had used was flashing through and a few runs because the access to some areas was awkward. These were quickly rectified, we re-evaluated our systems and agreed on another plan. Taking our time, we got stuck in and completed the job in just a few hours whilst the area was clear and quiet.

It was looking great, we had a nice wet consistent film across the whole area. We called it a night and agreed that one of us would return first thing in the morning to double check everything and make sure it had dried perfectly and the client was happy.

It looked great!!

The picture speak for themselves, we were really happy with the results, it was great to be able to resolve the problem with as little disruption as possible so was the client was really happy..

What is important when looking for a decorator or painting contractor?

We have been painting & decorating for over 25 years and although price is the most talked about subject we have found that our clients are ultimately more focused on the quality of the finished result.

What is important when looking for a decorator?

We have been painting & decorating for over 25 years and although price is the most talked about subject we have found that our clients are ultimately more focused on the quality of the finished result. They are in business themselves and clearly understand that no matter what business “you get what you pay for” so when choosing the right decorator they will inevitably be looking for consistently high quality results at a good price. Granted, we can all fake it but at some point you have to deliver – “proofs in the pudding”

So when choosing a decorator look for someone who has a good existing  client base producing exceptional results consistently – this will give you confidence that you are choosing the right person.

One comment we often get is

“You can only spray on building sites!”

We have perfected spraying in a residential property and on site so to us it makes no difference as the same care and attention is taken.  When you are spraying, trust me if something goes wrong it really goes wrong so to be aware and prepared is very important.

The quality of the final finish is the most important outcome. When you have doors that are perfect because they have no brush marks or runs as we have the sprayer delivering just the right amount of paint flawlessly every time you start to wonder; why doesn’t everyone do it this way.

We have been doing this a long time now and have mastered these systems to work on every project and size so don’t worry if you think its only for big building sites because it isn’t!

If your a home owner then you love the idea of the decorator turning up to repaint your home and make everything look fresh and new, but to be honest you love it more when we leave and get your home back to normal.

You hate the disruption – Having us in your home for weeks on end is enough to drive you crazy, but because of the spraying systems we have created we are all finished, tidied up and gone in half the time than traditional decorating which allows you to get back to normal so much quicker.

If you don’t believe us have a look at this fun video of us doing a Pepsi challenge of spraying vs brushing doors.

Builders and developers want the job finished – When we finally get on site it always feels like a mad rush to get finished and it usually is! You find that all the trades are now working on top of each other and the overal finish on the project can be compromised.

So, being able to have a smaller team of sprayers instead of a large team of traditional decorators we can get through a lot of area with less disruption to the other trades. We have built our spray systems into phases to help you manage the project better.

We ask you and the trades what time they finish on average and we usually start spraying just as they leave. This allows them to carry on and us to get the prep work done leaving the spraying till the end of the day. We still leave at the same time and allow the paint to settle and dry ready for the morning.

Price - if it's quicker then it has to be cheaper surely?

We get that a lot from builders & developers but rarely from clients as they are afraid that the extra quality will cost more – to be honest NO, it doesn’t!

Firstly, we achieve more benefit by using highly efficient systems to help you as a builder. I am sure that when you have to dig your footings you jump on the digger and not grab a spade!? Same principle really – high efficiency.

We don’t charge any more for the higher quality and less disruption because again, being efficient allows us to complete more work in less time to a higher level. This is what sets us apart from the competition but still allows us to be competitive and more flexible. We find that when it comes to pricing we are and always have been very competitive.

But will the painting fit within my budget?

We have found ways to streamline the pricing process for yourselves and the turn around from enquiring to finding out what the price is very quickly.

So, if you are a builder or client and have a set of plans for your project then send them over via email to info@painttech-uk.com and we will send back a Budget quote based on the information. If the initial price fits around your budget then we arrange meet up and discuss the project in more depth and see if we need to make any alterations.

We are extremely transparent and very open so just ask; “ you don’t get if you don’t ask” and because of the systems we created there is always more chance of working around potential problems.

Can I send over some photos to you?

If you are a client and have a kitchen or smaller project and would like a rough idea of cost then send over some pictures for us have a look at. We may need a phone conversation to discuss any questions we may have before giving you a price.

The simplicity of getting an idea of costs is what is important at the early stages. It helps build trust & confidence moving forward and then we can discuss it further in person via email or spend some time at your home or on your project.

Do I get any guarantees?

Yes you get 3!…

1. We guarantee you will find someone cheaper

2. We also guarantee they will take twice as long

3. We guarantee they won’t deliver the finish we do

PLUS, as a company we clearly guarantee our service just like any successful business and thats why we are good at what we do.

We use products that yourself and to be honest most trades will have never heard of! This is because we want the best systems, paints and products from our clients so that we get great recommendations.

For any questions or if you would like to speak to us about a project then contact Ian on 07973 369872, fill out the contact for below or email us on info@painttech-uk.com

PaintTech & Tikkurilla – the perfect combo!

We are constantly testing products both currently on the market or new to the market, looking for the best products to work with our systems. We research and test products in a real time environment to make sure they will work as we need them to and replace or dismiss ones that work or don’t!.

We met Ben Adams of Valtti through LinkedIn who sent us a selection of products from Tikkurilla to test. We used them on different projects and surfaces and now work with the ones that we like the most and believe that this has helped give us the edge in the market.

Established in 1862, Tikkurilla is a leading Northern European paint industry professional known for its strong brands, high-quality surface treatment products and expert services, which ensure the best possible user experience in the market. Tikkurila offers a broad range of decorative paints for consumers and professionals for surface protection and decoration.

Ben and the team at Valtti offer a personal service backed by product knowledge and technical help & advice.

We are one of the main residential sprayers in the south that use Tikkurilla paints so we invited Ben on site to see his products in action in a real life situation!

He was amazed at how well the products sprayed including coverage and opacity. We got Ben to spray a room with the TriTech T5 using Tikkurilla products on walls and woodwork.

We love working with Tikurilla paints for coverage, sheen and durability but for us the number one factor is its touch up capability compared to other products we have used or tested. One major factor/common complaint from sprayers and builders is the perception of how difficult it is to touch up compared with traditional decorating. To us this isn’t a problem because:

1. We do it for you
2. We specify the paint because we know its capabilities

Ben, Valtti & Tikkurilla are huge supporters of PaintTech and the way we are constantly trying to increase the awareness of Spray Technology mixed with advanced paint systems to deliver a combination not seen before in the UK housing market!

We now run our own spraying courses as we are often being asked why there is no availability in the market for courses other than those provided by sellers of paint or machines?
For the first time, we are offering courses designed and developed by decorators that spray on site over 95% of the time for decorators wanting to get into spraying.

Tritech Sprayers and why PaintTech recommends them!

We were approached by Aristospray who are the UK’s exclusive importers of American designed, engineered and manufactured TriTech Airless spray machines after the Painting & Decorating show at the end of last year, they wanted us to trial one of their machines to see our thoughts. We have been spraying for over 20 years and have worked hard promoting ourselves to small and medium sizes house builders/developers as decorating contractors who predominantly spray as we have developed a painting system that reduces the time on site dramatically whilst increasing the quality of the work at the same time!

Our aim is to educate the UK construction industry on the benefits of spraying to increase the use of spray machines on site. We are constantly talking to painters working on small residential projects and larger building sites on how they can increase profits and reduce the time they spend on jobs BUT increase the quality and finish of their work too. We created and run Spraying Makes Sense Facebook Group to bring together experienced sprayers and newbies who are looking for guidance and support whilst starting to spray.

Quality of Service from Aristospray

Michael from Aristospray came onto one of our projects to run through how their T5 machine worked & how to break it down to maintain the day to day parts or clear common blockages. Our job pretty much was to “TRY AND BREAK IT!” Well, we have given it a really hard time spraying thousands of litres through this small machine but it really has done exactly what Aristospray and TriTech said it would – it has been pretty much flawless. Downtime has been minimal, no maintenance has been required and we have run various water based products through it without any problems at all.

Our summary of TriTech’s T5 airless sprayer

In short, this machine and TriTech are a welcome addition to the UK airless spray market. The USA are the market leaders in spray technology so it only seems apt that TriTech would produce such a great machine, but more to the point they are so confident they are prepared to give a lifetime warranty on the motor and drive train plus a 2 year packing warranty which significantly reduces the overall lifetime costs. We have recently spoken also to Phil at Airless pro who has said that whilst he has been dealing with Tritech he hasn’t yet had a single one in for repair which shows how solid these machines are!

UPDATE – Well, we finally broke the machine!! BUT it was only the pressure release valve and was replaced within 15 minutes and back to normal.. The only downside was that the part wasn’t in stock with our supplier as they had never had to replace one before!

Holland Park project completed for Hare & Humphreys

Why use PaintTech? How are we different to other painting companies? Well the difference is we are spray painting contractors therefore we can complete projects in a shorter time frame but with a far superior finish too!

Also look at our video’s to see how PaintTech Decorators could be of benefit to you and your clients.
This is the proof that most contractors are looking for – using spray machines, efficient systems and products help us achieve great results for clients and their projects.

Holland Park, London

We were approached by Cathy Littlejohn of Hare & Humphreys to price a project they were working on. Their clients were converting an old public house into a stunning residential property with subterranean floors to put up for sale once completed. Initially we were only asked to paint 1 mist coat and 1 top coat to all walls and ceilings leaving their own contractors to finish everything else off, however after a couple of site meetings Cathy could see the benefits of PaintTech completing ALL the internal painting because of the time saving alone.
If the project had been more ready when we started then we could have finished it in even less time as we could have been more productive! We still completed this house however in 3 months including all snagging, remedial works plus last minute changes and this house was huge! It was spread over 5 floors with 2 staircases, 2 lifts, Master Bedroom suite with 2 en-suites & 2 Dressing rooms, 6 further bedrooms mostly with en-suites, Family Bathroom, Drawing Room, Study, large Sitting/Dining/Kitchen area, utility, 2 further cinema, WC’s, gym, plant rooms, swimming pool, sauna and changing rooms!! It also had an adjoining 1 en-suite bedroom & 1 living room mews house with a 3 floor spiral staircase which we completed at the same time too.. Hare & Humphreys provided all the paint from Mylands and throughout the project there were various different colours on walls, ceilings and woodwork to contend with so at times it was a logistical challenge but was a pleasure to work on and looked amazing when it was finished & dressed for sale!

We use efficient systems and products to be as productive as we can be 100% of the time!

Aims, Goals and Aspirations for this year

Paint Tech - Picture of a door - Mormac Construction - Welling, KentWe have had a great start to the year so far and have worked with some great contractors. We have recently started working with Zenwave on building our website and blogs to increase awareness in the industry about spray paint technology. We would love to be a resource in the industry to be able to inform Builders, Architects & fellow painters of the benefits of spraying.

We will be putting together blogs throughout the year on various subjects including:

Common Questions asked by clients and Contractors:

Can we touch it up? Is it a better finish than the traditional way? Is it quicker? Don’t you get overspray everywhere? Doesn’t it take too long to mask off; is it worth it?

Tips and Tricks

  • By spraying we can achieve a solid seamless finish. Almost factory quality finish in a site environment.
  • Last year a client made a comment: “Why does your work look better than my previous decorator!”
  • We spray and back roller the last coat making touch ups less difficult (however some products just don’t touch up whether sprayed or hand painted)

  • Samples of Tapes from Decorating DirectTesting of products – why we choose the paints and products we use. Designer paints are 60% more expensive but are they 60% better than other paints?
  • Field testing of products given to us by suppliers to test (Decorating Direct);
  • Paint trials – recommendations from the USA;
  • We don’t compromise on products as these give us the overall finish – this is what you are left with to look at for years to come so why should you compromise!

ToolsPainter Decorator Kent - Tools - Servicing

  • Spray Machines – research on which machines and their uses;
  • Servicing of machines – stripping and repairing;
  • Using years of experience to overcome problems;
  • Use of dust free sanding – the investment is worth it. Using extractors and masks not only helps your health but also the environment you work in.

Case Studies

Spray Paint - Ling and Sons Builders - Tunbridge WellsUsing different projects to showcase different areas: e.g . scale, fitted furniture, problems overcome.

  • We use a systematic approach to decorating which increases productivity and efficiency.
  • We approach projects differently to traditional decorators – we mask and prep in the morning and spray last thing once all trades have left – this increases efficiency.

Recruitment & Training

We want to expand and recruit like-minded people. Taking on apprentices means that we can teach our systems on site whilst they learn the paperwork side at college.

Picture of the Team, TH Smith Construction - CouldonWe are always on the look out to add new members to the PaintTech team – “we need good people to make great decorators!”
We are always looking for new ways to do things and teach the team to implement these to make us as efficient as possible.

We monitor all aspects of each project. This not only helps with pricing but also helps to track the efficiency of a project and project time required on future projects.

It allows us to record time taken on new items such as bespoke fitted furniture for pricing future work.
Ask a decorator how long it takes to fill, prime, caulk or paint 100m of skirting – they have no idea!

Spray Paint - Painter Decorator Picture of house plans and pricingWe price the majority of projects on a m2 basis and split projects per area.
We can price off plan and follow on with a site visit before prices are confirmed and we start on site.

If there is anything you want to ask or would like us to cover then just email info@PaintTech-uk.com and we will try and do so.

As ever you will be able to see everything we are doing on Twitter, Facebook, You Tube & Google+ as well as on our website!

Spraying v’s Rollering – see it to believe it!

We are often asked by contractors how much time is actually saved by spraying! This has made us do time analysis, make videos and take pictures to show this on a visual basis as it easier to see the benefits.

We will be producing these on a more regular basis as projects allow as there is no better way to prove to people that Spray Paint Technology really does reduce the decorating project time dramatically and allow us to work closer to the completion of the project.

Graph showing time savings on a project with 584m2 of walling over 9 flats

We have produced this graph using the data from a recent project which had identical sized flats allowing us to spend time visualising the benefits of spraying.

You can see from the graph the amount of time that can be saved by spraying the walls alone but imagine the time savings that can be made when spraying ceilings and woodwork as well…..!

We have tried to demonstrate this time saving per area and then on the project as a whole – now image this saving on one of your projects!

Look out for our next blog which will be about the time saving when spraying woodwork.

PaintTech sprays to create the wow factor!

PictureWe have been working with Rosemary Ridgeway of April Hamilton Architectural and Interior Designers on various projects over the last 15 years and Rosemary has watched us evolve and change over this time.
We were approached to price for the decoration of a large family home in South London that was being renovated to a high specification. Rosemary wanted to use PaintTech mainly because of the Finish we achieve by using Spray Application.

Rosemary sent us plans, brief, design ideas and colours for us to start putting pricing together. We then carried out a site visit and met the main contractor to answer any questions before submitting a breakdown of prices, spec and timings for the project.

These kind of projects are organic because of their bespoke nature and therefore very often change along the way. Any changes are always discussed, priced and agreed whilst working on site to keep things moving.

As we got closer to the start date of this project it turned out that Speed was also going to be a major factor as the clients had a fixed moving date and the project was running over time. It was decided that we focus on the principle rooms in the house and the main contractors own decorating team completed all other remaining areas. Because of the timings, all trades had to work around one another so the schedule and timings were important.

We used spray application for the majority of the project including re painting existing fitted furniture, and hand painted some areas; including the candy stripe wall, circles and wipe clean wall in the playroom. All paints were chosen and specified by Rosemary in Designer Paints i.e Farrow & Ball and Little Green.

Benefits of Spraying: We believe that every project will benefit from PaintTech’s approach for 3 key reasons:

1. Speed (ability to cover larger areas in a shorter time frame)
2. Finish (superior finish to traditional brush and roller)
3. Budget
(reduced time = reduced cost) This project was no different! We completed within time, achieved a superior finish and in budget (with a few added extras). As we are a visual business we spend time on taking photographs throughout projects. These not only to give before and after images but shows our processes as well. We also take video’s to show the benefits of spray application over traditional painting and as you will see in the 2 videos below it is much quicker!

This video shows the speed of spraying over using the traditional brush and roller method – no contest!

This video shows the ability to spray multiple coats when converting dark paintwork to light. Multiple coats can be painted in a much quicker time.

2013 Round up

This year we have added 2 new members to the team that work well with us when we need them. They make working on projects fun whilst being productive and effective at the same time.We have spent time on training people to use the sprayers, explaining our systems and why we use them. We also spent money on new tools and equipment towards the end of the year allowing more people to use the new spraying and sanding machines and meaning that we can run more projects at the same time. Most importantly, we have been given the opportunity to work with 4 new Builders/Contractors this year. We have been able to use our systems and machines to show how we work differently to other decorating contractors and why.

We have thoroughly enjoyed working with new and existing contacts this year on some fantastic projects and would like to wish everyone all the best for 2014.

New Clients

PictureWe love working with new clients and spend time making sure we are as competitive as possible.

We work in an industry where there is a lot of competition so it is important for us to stand out.We have spent many years with the sprayers working on making projects as cost effective as possible and finding as many products available in the UK market to help us to do this.We use marketing tools such as twitter, facebook and google to help us as well as BNI Networking to promote PaintTech to other businesses. We offer introductory prices to not only entice new business but allow us to produce m2 pricing for each project which shows us whether we are realistic and accurate with our quoting systems.Send us project plans and you will be able to see where we place ourselves in the marker in terms of cost but have a look at our work and see where we place ourselves in terms of quality of work.

New Building Contractor – New Project

We have been asked to take over all of the decorating work within the house, including fitted furniture and now the new hand painted kitchen.
The majority of this project is new plaster and we should be able to spray 95% of this project. We have been able to put our new sanding equipment to the test and this has proved to be a valuable investment as it has saved time on labour and materials. We will be posting pictures as the project progresses and will add the completed project to the website once we have finished it.

Contractors and PaintTech

The key benefits to contractors are:

  • Quick Turnaround/Speed
  • Cost/Budget
  • Volume/Area Covered

Smaller Team = less bodies on site = more productive

We get the same volume of work done in less time with less people on site.

Most trades laugh when we come onto site because of the time we spend masking and preparing, BUT by the time we leave they cannot believe how quickly we turned it around!

We have found that by preparing and masking throughout the day and spraying late afternoon we become more productive. Not only are there are less trades around to clash with but we still have enough drying time ready to start again the following day. The spraying is the quickest part of the process (as the videos show!)

Yes machines do break down but we been using Graco machines for a lot of years now and maintain them constantly. We hold some parts in stock and can normally get them back up and running in a short time. Failing that we have enough suppliers that can send one for the following day – much easier than finding human labour…

We offer 2 Options that work well for contractors:-

Option 1 – We take over the whole decorating project

We prepare, prime, mask and finish all wood trim, doors, ceilings, cornice and walls.

Walls can be finished in multiple finishes depending on the area or room using designer paints and colours such as Farrow & Ball, Little Green etc or using trade paints if there is a tighter budget.

The main cost saving area when dealing with woodwork is staircases and spindles. By using the sprayers the time is hugely reduced and therefore a cost saving can be made.

Ornate cornices also benefit from being sprayed rather than brush and roller. You can get into areas a paint brush struggles with.

You can see from this video the time it takes to spray doors; 1 min 30 seconds each coat and a flat factory style finish.

This video shows how quickly we can spray a ceiling achieving a completely flat solid finish.

To give the best price, each area should be clear of people and furniture but as we are well aware most projects don’t work this way. This is why we approach the project differently by preparing and masking during the day and spraying last thing. We like to come on site once all trades have completed 2nd fix. The only things left to do should be flooring once we have finished.

Ceilings – we mask and protect all lights, speakers, smoke alarms and early warning systems before spraying to give a superior solid, flat finish with no roller or brush marks.
Walls – we mask and protect all switches and sockets before painting in a finish appropriate to the area. We use durable paints when painting staircases and communal areas.
Wood Trim – this includes skirtings, architraves, doors, windows and staircases. These are sprayed in an acrylic satin finish unless specified otherwise.

Then we unwrap, clean and hand over each area completely finished!

The finish is seamless, quicker and within budget…

Painter Decorators Oxted

Option 2 – but we have our own decorator!

We have come across numerous contractors that already have a decorator on site and want to keep them busy. For us to speed up a project for the contractor we have found the benefit is the speed alone  not the budget or finish. The contractors decorator prepares and fills the areas then we take over to prime everything and paint the finishing coats on the wood trim and ceilings. This is usually done between 1st and 2nd fix and leaves the contractors decorator to complete the colour choices on the walls and finish. The wood trim (skirtings, architraves, windows, doors & Staircase) is the most time consuming; especially staircases and the 400 spindles x 3 coats and painful Georgian windows!! We can cut down the time to paint these by at least 1/3 and give a much better finish.
