Grade 2 Listed Building in Thames Ditton

TH Smith Construction Ltd approached us to help them with the renovation of this Grade 2* Listed Building built in the late 17th Century. It is considered one of the very few significant large houses in the area to have survived to the present day. While the house was a family residence until the 1920s, mainly owned by early Antiguan colonists, subsequently it was a school, Headquarters of the Home Guard during World War 2, an orphanage, and then, since the 1970’s, used as residential sheltered accommodation for the elderly. The house recently returned to family ownership and residential use, and it has now been renovated into an amazing 6 bedroom house. The clients were keen to restore and renovate as much of this property as possible and not rip out and replace with new materials. Both clients were very involved in the details of the property and all the colour choices. The decorating portion of the project alone took 4 months to complete.

Some of the 1970’2 additions were able to be removed but the majority of the property had to be kept as it was. The ceilings in a couple of the rooms are fantastic but very intricate. The sprayers were perfect for getting the best finish.

Some old murals were found hidden behind the wallpapered panels in the new kitchen. Some of the photographs of the kitchen below show them further. After much deliberation it was decided to leave them as they are for the time being until such a time as they can be restored back to their former glory.
